The Conception of Hampers

If you didn’t know, you might think that when we create an Irish hamper, we pick some items, put them in a wicker basket and away we go. From years of experience, we know that this is untrue. For 20 years now we have been designing and creating hampers. From trial and error, success and failure, we have got to the bottom of exactly what our customers expect to be included in a hamper to satisfy their expectations.

Creating hampers is a very serious task for us, which you may have already gathered from the extensive range on our website. With our all new range of Emerald Irish Hampers, there is a balanced mix of sweet and savoury items within each.

Sweetheart or Psychopath?

Whether you believe it or not, according to research being a sweet or savoury person can play a major role in your personality.

Interestingly, after research into the subject it became clear that people who prefer to eat sweet food are more likely to be sweet in their nature. Meier et al. (2011) found that people who ate sweet foods were more inclined to help, share or volunteer without compensation or reward. They also found that they are more likely to be friendly and compassionate. The authors claim that “people high in agreeableness liked sweet foods to a greater extent than did people low in agreeableness.” So after all it seems that calling someone “sweet” or “sweetheart” is closely linked to what they eat. Implying that you are what you eat…

On the flip side, researchers have found that people who prefer bitter foods such as black coffee, tonic water, or lemons are more likely to have psychopathic personality traits, and are less approachable than their counterparts.

Of course we are not neurologists, psychologists or scientists by any means and we are not claiming that if you enjoy sweet foods you are a sweetheart, or if you enjoy savoury foods you are a psychopath. That would be rather dramatic. Obviously is it possible and probable to like both sweet and savoury, and we probably eat both everyday otherwise we wouldn't have a balanced diet. It is just that often we either prefer one more than the other.

I personally just found it rather interesting how our choice of food can lend such a deep insight into our personality traits.

Sweet VS Savoury Emerald

When we were creating our Emerald Irish Hampers we included both sweet and savoury items using a product check-list to curate the perfect hamper. Although there are a mix we generally include more sweet than savoury due to sweet being more popular among our customers.

If you are sending a gift to a die-hard sweet fan, you are in luck as our Emerald Hampers include a range of chocolates from renowned Irish chocolatiers, such as Skelligs, Butlers, and Lily O’Briens, a freshly baked chocolate cake and other chocolate snacks. However, if you are more of a savoury fan, or know someone who is, our Emerald Hampers have a balanced range of savoury treats such as vegetable crisps, oatcakes, relishes and other delights. We have tried each of these items ourselves and can confirm that we love them and are not psychopaths (we hope)!

Take a look at some of the Irish treats we have packed into our Emerald Irish Hampers below.

Rather than go down the route of causing offence by sending the wrong message with a completely savoury gift, implying dark personality traits, we created hampers with the perfect mix of sweet and savoury treats. Over the years we have found that a blend of both sweet and savoury items works best in pleasing our customers, trust us to do the work for you when sending an Irish hamper. So now it begs the question, do you have a sweet or salty tooth? If you’re unsure, ask yourself this: when you go out for a meal, do you choose a starter or dessert?
